ERAU Prescott Observatory

Space Situational Awareness Center

The ERAU Prescott Observatory has instituted its Space Situational Awareness Center to fuse the many aspects of satellite and space weather data collection from the radio observatory.

The Space Foundation describes space situational awareness as the ability to view, understand and predict the physical location of natural and manmade objects in orbit around the Earth, with the objective of avoiding collisions. In its broader view space situational awareness is an understanding of the complete space environment including not only physical hazards to space craft but environmental hazards as well. These include the effects of space weather on both space based and ground based assets.

The ERAU Space Situational Awareness Center is designed to teach students the various aspects of the space environment and its effects. Training in SSA will enhance student’s ability to interact at various levels in the development of an effective space awareness capability.
